Calum Alex
Calum Alex MacMillan (vocals/pipes/whistle) was born and raised in the Gaelic stronghold of Point on the Isle of Lewis. A native speaker, Gaelic is still the first language in his home amongst his family, including his 7 year-old niece.
Calum Alex is descended from a long line of incredibly distinguished bards and singers. His father was one of the first Gaelic artists ever to record and his ancestors wrote many of the classics including Eilean Fraoich, the “national anthem” of Lewis. An in-depth knowledge of the songs and traditions of his beloved Island of Lewis allows him access to a countless number of incredible songs, all passed down through the oral tradition.
Calum Alex is a two-time nominee for Best Gaelic Singer at the Scots Trad Music Awards, and holds two Gold Medals, one from each of the main disciplines at the Mod. He now works for Fèisean nan Gaidheal, an organisation devoted to developing Gaelic culture amongst the young people of the Highlands.
