2018 was a very busy year for the band; starting with a bang and a Celtic Connections concert celebrating our co-birthday celebrant..The Isle of Eigg!
Our seventh album and first studio recording in five years, The Rough Bounds is officially released on 27th May to mark 20 years to the day of our first ever concert on the Isle of Skye.
Happy New Year everybody, hope you all had a great one! 2017 was a fantastic year for us as it was our 20th anniversary and 2018 is already off to a flying start! Right now we are half way through January and that means the biggest winter festival in Europe; Celtic Connections is in full swing and we’ve got a really exciting sold-out concert that we are part of celebrating the Isle of Eigg’s 20th Anniversary of it’s independance with a brilliant night of music featuring ourselves, The Pictish Trail, Ja’Ma’Tha Ceilidh Band, The Massacre Cave and DJ Dolphin Boy.
Absolutely delighted to have our latest album; The Hebridean Sessions up for Album of the Year at the 2016 Scots Trad Music Awards. This comes at the end off a really brilliant year for the band..our busiest one ever, with 2 hugely successful tours of the USA and our Pirates of the Hebridean tour of Scotland as well as plenty festivals to keep us in trouble! In addition to the album nomination, our very own Ellen MacDonald is up for Gaelic Singer of the Year, go check out all the nominees in all the categories here. There’s loads of great things happening in Scottish music, go check it out!
We’re very excited to be heading back across the pond to the U.S. this week. We’ll also be making our first trip to Ontario, Canada. Check out the poster below and also the gig section of our website for details. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and making new friends!
It’s been a very busy first few months of the year for us Dàimh’ers. We had a great night at Celtic Connections (check out this Scotsman Review) celebrating 15 years since our first album Moidart to Mabou with a concert featuring seven Gaelic singers that have sung, toured and recorded with us over the years. It really was a special night and we were delighted to share it with a sold out Glasgow Royal Concert Hall audience.
2015 was an amazing year for Dàimh. We started the year by picking up the award for Best Folk Band in Europe at the Folkherbst competition in Plauen, Germany, and finished the year by being named Folk Band of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards in Dundee!
With this recording we wanted to gather together tunes that we have been playing since the early days of the band. The material here never made it onto previous albums because we couldn’t find a place for it, didn’t believe we were doing it justice or simply felt that the tunes were too commonly-played and overlooked them in favour of less well-known material.
After a very busy summer with various projects, we’re really excited to be heading the U.S. this week for the first time. We’ll have special guest, Hannah Read on vocals and fiddle for the first leg of the tour. Check out the poster below and come say hello if we’re in your area!
